Mohawk Valley Trading Company - Buckwheat Honey Review

In this post I want to share with you about Buckwheat Honey from Mohawk Valley Trading Company. It is one of their 5 varieties of raw honey, along with Wildflower HoneyApple Blossom HoneyOrange Blossom Honey, and Blueberry Blossom HoneyTheir raw honey is unpasteurized, unfiltered, unprocessed, unheated, and unblended.

Buckwheat Honey has a dark color, strong flavor and is high in mineral content and antioxidant compounds. Recent studies have shown buckwheat honey to be more effective than over-the-counter cough syrup for treating a child’s cough.

The Buckwheat Honey was very different from the other two. First of all, it is a much darker color. It also has a very thick syrup-like consistency. The flavor is very sweet but very different. I did not hate it but I did not like it as much as the others. As I said it is very sweet and the flavor is still very good, just with a little different taste than I am used to.

I think that the Buckwheat Honey will be wonderful to bake with, since the sweetness will make it a great replacement for sugar. I love to bake and finding a healthier way to do it is always a priority. I already know that my children enjoy this honey (and all the others we have tried from Mohawk Valley Trading Company) so adding it to some of their favorite cookies will be fun for them and teach them to be healthier in their choices.

Mohawk Valley Trading Company - Raw Honey Review

Today I am doing my review on the Raw Honey that I received from The Mohawk Valley Trading Company.

First a little information from the company.

The Mohawk Valley Trading Company (MVTC) offers the highest quality organic and unprocessed natural products they can produce. Their raw honey and maple syrup is used and endorsed by two of by the world’s most recognized chefs: Bobby Flay recommends our maple syrup and Tom Colicchio recommends our honey. Not only does Tom say their honey is one of his “Personal Pantry Essentials” and “Favorite Gifts” but he also keeps “a jar of the stuff on my desk at all times.”
Their raw honey is unpasteurized, unfiltered, unprocessed, unheated, unblended and is available in 5 varieties;
Raw honey contains all of the pollen, live enzymes, propolis, vitamins, amino acids, antioxidants, minerals, and aromatics in the same condition as they were in the hive.

Honey is a safe alternative to over the counter cough syrup especially for children; Cough Medicine vs. Honey

So I'll admit, I'm one of those honey out of bear people. Who knew honey could come another way? When I was given the opportunity to review the raw honey I was excited. It is a beautiful color and I was almost sad to mess it up. The consistency was smooth and wonderful! It was very sweet and I really loved the taste. It doesn't taste at all like honey I usually buy but I really enjoyed it.

I don't usually eat honey just off a spoon so I started looking for ideas to use my honey. I decide to mix it with some yogurt and made a really great fruit dip. My children loved and I still have plenty of honey left. It really didn't take much at all to sweeten the yogurt. It tasted great with apple slices.

I also love how healthy this honey is for you. I have a family full of allergy sufferers, and I love the idea that this honey has pollen in it that can help my children build up their tolerance level. The fact that this honey is organic is wonderful!

Mohawk Valley Trading Company - Maple Syrup Review

I recently received a box full of products from The Mohawk Valley Trading Company that I will be reviewing in my next four posts. I received one jar each of Raw HoneyWildflower Honey, and Buckwheat Honey. I also received one bottle of Maple Syrup. I will be doing my review today on the Maple Syrup.

The Mohawk Valley Trading Company's Maple Syrup is Grade A, Robust, Dark, Pure Maple Syrup made primarily from sugar maple sap.

I was very excited to do this review. I love pure maple syrup, and after learning more about this company I was even more excited to get my items. Everything came very well packaged, and arrived very quickly. I received a 16oz glass bottle of Maple Syrup. I immediately started thinking of what I could use it on. This morning for breakfast I was trying out a new recipe from Jade Louise Designs called German Pancakes. I decided this would be a perfect time to test out the maple syrup.

It tastes amazing! It is very sweet and, although I used a lot, you do not need a lot of it on whatever you are eating. I really enjoyed this syrup. My 23 month old son had his German Pancakes with The Mohawk Valley Trading Company Maple Syrup, too. I asked him if it was good, his response, "Uh huh!" while he didn't stop taking bites. My husband, who doesn't usually like maple syrup, tried it and he said it was really good.

I may have to hide this bottle of syrup from my family. It is much better than what we normally grab from the grocery store. If you would like to purchase your own bottle of Maple Syrup just stop The Mohawk Valley Trading Company.

Pet Peeves!

Have you ever run to use the bathroom and found the toilet paper gone? So many moms know exactly what I am talking about. When that baby starts dancing on your bladder, there is no stop to check if your husband/boyfriend remembered to replace the toilet paper after he was so nice as to use it all. An empty toilet paper roll is what inspired my post today.

According to Wikipedia pet peeves are just minor annoyances that a person perceives as much more annoying than others (find it here). I suppose that is right. I mean not everyone gets aggravated about an empty toilet paper roll. Though, I do think everyone has something that bothers them. Maybe it's a sound, or a gesture, maybe it's grammar (avoid my blog if it is, my grammar is sad), maybe it is spelling, or a song, a noise someone makes, an action someone takes, ect. Whatever the peeve is it get's you riled. Your jaw clenches, your fists might, too, your eye twitches, that vein in your forehead starts showing, maybe you have to just say something!

Ah, yes, the witty way of letting someone know they have activated your pet peeve response system.

Truly the list of pet peeves is highly extensive, I know because I Googled it. I picked one result because lets face it, there are five little monsters in my house, and I can't read all the lists! GetAnnoyed has rather long list of pet peeves. Some of them make me laugh a lot. I am probably guilty of them. Others I agree with completely! And for some of them I am reminded of Monica from Friends. She would cry if I was in her home. I never use coasters (unless we are at my husband's family's house). My children tend to just toss their shoes down where ever they take them off (ok that one bugs me!). I'm sure I do plenty that aggravates my husband.

My pet peeves aren't so crazy. I hate when people don't replace toilet paper, obviously. I also can't stand the toilet paper being on wrong, it goes over, not under! I cannot deal with someone constantly tapping, whether it is their foot or their hand. I about lose it when someone chews with their mouth open. Nails on anything, metal against metal, grinding teeth, all those make me shudder. People who don't flush the toilet, and also the ones who don't wash their hands after using the bathroom. Gross! I'm sure I have more. If I let this post sit a few days I could add more. Oh well, I'm going with these.

So what are your pet peeves? Leave them in the comments!

Potty Training Adventures - About To Begin!

Potty training! It is both horrible and wonderful all at the same time. Horrible because of the inevitable failures. There will be potty in underwear, and probably on the floor somewhere. There will be so many Pull-Ups! There is the "assume the position" wiping. Wonderful because once finished, the child has mastered a very important developmental milestone, and money will be saved!

So after potty training two girls I should have it figured out, right? So not true! Ashlynn took so long to potty train. We started with Pull-Ups and used every reward system you can imagine. We tried candy, stickers, money, ect. Finally I gave up the rewards. It wasn't working. She was supposed to be starting school right before she turned four, and so we stuck her in underwear and let it go. She only had a few accidents. She really did great with it! Why didn't I try that first??

With Riley, I let her dictate when she was ready for her big girl underwear. I didn't want to try and push her (I think that is why Ashlynn took so long). Not too long after turning three she said she wanted underwear. I didn't even attempt Pull-Ups with her. Straight into underwear and we had a few weeks of her having accidents and then she was potty trained. Woohoo! Two down!

Now Robbie is turning two soon. I know it is earlier than I started the others, and he is also a boy (I think they are supposedly slow potty trainers) but he already sheds his diaper and runs my house buck naked and crazy. He already potties in my floor, or in his bed, or on the couch, or just where ever he has decided to "be free". I think it's time to start working with him. He can't talk very well yet but I really hope we can work something out.

I have no clue how to start! I recently was chosen to do a Pull-Ups House Party and I am really excited about it. We'll be learning how to use "The Potty Dance" to potty train. Robbie is a musical little fellow so I hope that something musical will help us along. I have heard of so many ways to help a little boy potty train. Probably the most common is to let him aim at Cheerios in the toilet. I guess it's a good thing we have plenty of those!

I have a feeling that this will be a major adventure for us. Any tips would be appreciated! And wish me luck!

Cutsie Bowtique - Review

I want to introduce you all to a wonderful little shop called Cutsie Bowtique. I have been shopping there for a while now, and I have never been disappointed in the products or the customer service. You can find a large variety of items, such as bows, hats, bottle cap items, taggies, diaper cakes, and so much more. Recently the owner has added hand stamped jewelry that looks amazing! The items are all hand crafted and very well made. I have five very rambunctious children, if something can withstand them, it can withstand anything.

Recently I purchased all of my children hats for the winter. They were all well made, exactly to my specifications, and arrived quickly.

Abigail in her winter hat with the "Big Sister" bottle cap.

Brittany in her winter hat with the "Little Sister" bottle cap.

We also bought my son a mohawk hat in Clemson colors, my second oldest daughter got an owl hat, and my oldest daughter picked out a custom made hat with a flower on it and a Carebear bottle cap. My children all love their hats and try to wear them around the house all day.

For Christmas I also purchased beautiful fabric flowers to match my daughters' dresses.

I have also purchased several bows and clippies as gifts for my friends. They have all been great quality. I have never had any problems with special orders. She has happily accepted all my ideas for items to make. When my twins were being born she special made them hats to match their coming home outfits.

I hope that you will stop by Cutsie Bowtique's facebook and also her Etsy shop called Cutielishious. And keep an eye out for future giveaways featuring some of her wonderful items!
